When many people hear of someone not having enough food on the table they may wonder how they can help ensure that that person stays well fed. In my local community I had wondered that quite often and that was how I found out about our local community garden in Denton County.
At the 18-acre farm volunteers can help by harvesting, weeding, and planting various plants, from squash to a multitude of vegetables. Through all the help volunteers provide, the garden is able to donate produce that goes to the local food bank and other ministries in Denton, Texas. I have had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer multiples times with the garden and have been lucky enough to experience nearly everything there. Most of the time I would wake up on a bright Saturday morning and get to the farm at 8am and help with the various activities that were going on that day. Being part of the big operation is one of the warmest feelings you can get and knowing that I was part of the process that helped someone have food on the table is unforgettable.
