Liam (13) and Miles (11) are the sons of Scott and Marcia Barber. They were born with autism and have special needs; these incredible boys are kind, funny, and love animals. Their father, Scott, provides round the clock patience, support, and care. Their warrior of a mother, Marcia, has worked at Cisco for six years, and is the family’s primary source of income.

In January 2022 Marcia was diagnosed with ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Once diagnosed, the average life expectancy is about three to five years. As one could imagine, this was, and continues to be, a devastating diagnosis that has changed the Barber family’s world.

The strong family of four has since had to move into a handicapped accessible home and continues to make adjustments to everyday life as the disease progresses. They are so thankful for the amazing support provided by friends and family who have helped along this transition. As Scott and Marcia prepare for the future, Liam and Miles are of course top of mind.

As Liam and Miles continue to grow, so will the need for support. In preparation for these times, a Special Needs Trust has been put into place. Through the generous donations made by people like you, this trust will grow and provide the necessary funds. The trust will help to cover costs such as in-home care, vocational therapy, mental health services, continued education, speech and occupational therapy, and other critical needs.
